President
I was born and raised in the Lake Norman area, attending College in VA before returning home to NC to begin my "adult" life. My partner Weston and I moved to the NYC area for his job in 2016 and after a few years we really missed NC.
We began working on plans to get back. With many friends in the West End neighborhoods, and on our visits back home, we fell in love with this community more and more with each visit. There was no question where we wanted to call home. We finally were able to move back in late 2019 and into our new home at 2111 Roslyn Ave at the beginning of 2020.
In my professional background I am one of the Managing Partners for marketing firm and my division primarily works with Cities and Towns to assist with education and communication efforts to their citizens. I wanted to get involved with the Community board to help these efforts within the community, to better connect neighbors with marketing and communication consistently, and in a way that celebrates the history, diversity, and future the Biddleville-Smallwood community has. I personally love everything about our neighborhood, the mix of old and new homes, with residents that have lived here for 20+ years and ones that are moving in this week. I want to make sure that we are able to preserve the community while being inclusive and open to positive change that benefits all.
Hopefully you have seen more positive changes over the recent years with the newsletter, and information we, as a board, are putting out with this monthly newsletter, launching a new website and event communications. We welcome any feedback you may have. Feel free to email us at the board@biddlevillesmallwood.com email address, we want your input and to know what we can do better to communicate, and any other feedback or concerns you may have.
My commitment as BSCO Board President is to build upon the diversity, character, and culture of our neighborhood to make Biddleville-Smallwood a great place to live, work and play.
"The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members." – Coretta Scott King
Vice President
I grew up in North Charlotte and was part of the first graduating class at Mallard Creek High School. I then attended Appalachian State University, where I received a degree in Construction Management and Sustainable Development. Charlotte has always been “home,” so naturally after I college, I found myself back here. After looking at numerous houses around Charlotte in 2017, someone suggested I look in Smallwood which is where we fell in love with our house on N Bruns Ave. My wife, 2 dogs, and I enjoy walking around the neighborhood and admiring all the unique features & history of the area.
I joined the board because I enjoy meeting new people and be an active part of the community. I hope that by getting to know even more people in the neighborhood, we can collaborate and guide the community in the direction that we all desire. I look forward to having an active role in helping to unlock the full potential of our community!
Treasurer
I'm excited to serve on your BSCO Board. As the Infrastructure Lead I am the neighborhood liaison to CMPD and the Sheriff's Dept.
I moved to Charlotte in 2009 and raised my 2 now adult kids in Ballantyne. My fiancee moved to the cute stone house at the corner of Bacon & Rozzelle's two years ago. We now enjoy our new home together at 111 N Turner as I joined the Biddleville community just about a year ago.
I've always been involved in the neighborhoods I've lived in, chairing and serving on numerous HOA committees over the last 20+ years, in everything from finance to architectural control to DOT project roles and more.
In the short time I've been here, this has struck me as one of the most unique, friendly, and engaging neighborhoods I've ever lived in and I look forward to building on the decades old history of the West End as we merge the older with the newer. My goals include fostering a close knit community we can all be proud to call home, being responsive to and for EVERY member who lives here, being a great steward of and advocate for the community's priorities, and engaging all residents at whatever levels they feel comfortable.
Secretary
I've lived at 327 Solomon Street, with my husband Jared and two rescue dogs, since 2018. I was born and raised in Boston, but have called Charlotte home for the last decade. I first came to Charlotte serving through Teach for America, and fell in love with this city and the community I taught in. I now work as a Digital Product Director, leading teams that build websites.
I'm eager to join this board to help its mission to bring the Biddleville-Smallwood community together. I've loved all of the neighbors I've met here, including many close friends from events like the Progressive Dinner. I plan to help out however I can to create more opportunities for neighbors to meet each other and to advocate for our neighborhood to continue to be a welcoming place for existing and new residents.
Community Lead: Community Engagement
I grew up in Nashville, North Carolina, a small quaint town east of Raleigh and right outside of Rocky Mount. Jennings and I moved to Charlotte in 2018 and resided at “The Vue” in Uptown while building our house here in Biddleville (412 Wake Street). It was a long process, but well worth the wait to move into such a great neighborhood! We designed our house on a paper napkin and worked closely with an architect and builder to make it all come together. We physically moved into the neighborhood in January 2020, right before the pandemic, so we’ve had plenty of time to enjoy the house needless to say. I’m very excited to be part of the Board to help grow the neighborhood even more and bring a level of engagement and cohesiveness to our community. Together, we can make things happen and I look forward to the positive changes we’ll make as a team!
In my professional life I currently work for a Software Technology company based out of the Netherlands. I was hired in August 2022 and fortunate enough to visit the main office in Utrecht in September 2022. It’s a lovely country and I can’t wait to return. I’m a Project Manager for North America overseeing all customer projects for the US with my company from the signing of the contract to the implementation of our product with our customers. Prior to this I worked for USAA Insurance for 15 years servicing our Military clients. I was In Operations Management for a number of years, along with leading digital fraud efforts with the Special Investigations team. I’m very excited for this new career change in software technology and looking forward to an amazing 2023!
I grew up in Spartanburg, SC in the town of Boiling Springs. I attended the University of South Carolina before moving to Charlotte, where I have lived since 2014. My wife Tori and I got married in 2017 and moved into 318 Mill Rd in historic Biddleville a few months later. We love the character and culture of this community, and you’ll often hear our two dogs Tucker and Sadie as we go for walks around the neighborhood. I joined the board to deepen my impact as a civic leader and build a sense of community amongst the neighborhood, and have served as Board president since 2020 - 2022.
I was born and raised in Hickory, NC and attended college at UNC Chapel Hill. After moving to Maryland post-college, I returned to NC and have called Charlotte home since 2011. I married my husband, Nick, in 2018, and we moved into the neighborhood later that year. We added twin boys, Abram & Jameson, to our family in September 2020, and adopted a cat who was abandoned in Five Points Park last year. Our family feels quite complete now! I spent 15 years working in the software industry, and in April 2021, I decided to step away from the paid workforce to focus on raising our boys. On most days, I can be seen chasing them around the neighborhood on their balance bikes or at the park. On weekends, we love riding our cargo bike around the city, and taking long walks around the neighborhood. We have loved getting to know our neighbors and connecting with folks who have lived here for decades, along with building strong friendships with other families who are at the same stage of life as us. We’ve never lived in a friendlier, safer, or more diverse place and love calling this neighborhood home. I look forward to serving the board and helping our neighbors connect, so that we can all work together in continuing to make this a wonderful place to live.
I’m originally from SC and grew up in WV. I have lived in NC for more than 20 years with the last 10 of those years living in Charlotte. I have lived on Frazier Avenue since the fall of 2020 with my partner, David.
Visiting our friends in Biddleville convinced us that this was the neighborhood for us, and we have greatly enjoyed living here. David and I moved to Biddleville from a neighborhood across town that did not have a sense of community and was sorely lacking in diversity. We greatly value those qualities here in Biddleville.
After a couple years of witnessing the work of the BSCO to foster a sense of community and preserve the neighborhood's diversity, I look forward to serving the neighborhood on the BSCO board.
I live at 134 Martin Street (I am proud to say that Martin Street was named after my great grandfather, James D. Martin, who was a professor and taught Latin at JCSU).
I was born in Rock Hill, SC and lived there until 1961, attended College in Atlanta, GA and Springfield, MA, and served Peace Corps in Barbados, West Indies. With Biddleville being home off and on for years, I returned in 2016 to where I now reside. I represent the 4th generation of my family as a resident of the of the Biddleville/West End Community.
As a member of the board and a resident of the community it is my desire to carry on the traditions of my family and the investment they made to create a stable, viable and thriving community that was rooted in building a strong foundation in the family, church, education, business, finances and the cultural arts.
My ambitions for the neighborhood are too many to list but I will share what is near and dear to my heart. It is important that we as an organization capture and preserve the rich history of the Biddleville/West End neighborhood and community. As we are transitioning into a new era, for the neighborhood, it is important that its legacy and new residence collaborate and work together to create a diverse, thriving network of people whose ideas, talents, gifts, skills and abilities are valued, respected and shared.
We must create a standard for our neighborhood that motivates and encourages us to always do better and make the conditions better for the residence who live here regardless. In order to achieve this we need everyone’s help and input. The way to effect positive change is to be a contributing part of that change. As John Lewis stated let us make “good trouble”. Please join us in making the Biddleville/West End Community a model neighborhood built on the principles of pride, respect, integrity and honor.
Community Lead: Parks
I am very excited to be a part of the Biddleville Smallwood Community Organization. Thanks to our amazing neighbor and friend who referred us…my husband and I moved to Biddleville last Summer and LOVE the community!
I was a Military Brat until I was 6 - we lived in Ohio, California, and Hawaii. When my Dad retired and we moved to be close to my mother’s family in Lumberton, NC. After high school I moved to Greensboro, NC for college and lived there until I relocated to Charlotte, NC in 2014 for work. I must say it was the BEST move I ever made! I absolutely LOVE Charlotte - the city, community and all it has to offer!
I joined the Board to be more involved in the neighborhood and to build strong relationships with our neighbors. As the Leader of the Parks Committee, I want to help continue to build more community involvement. I hope to help the neighbor to continue to utilize all the amenities our parks have to offer and continuing to take care of our beautiful parks.
My husband and I are so excited to be in the neighborhood and involved in the BSCO!
I grew up in Sunny South Florida and moved to Charlotte in 2013 after graduating from the University of Florida to work for one of the banks. I had mostly lived in the uptown since moving to Charlotte, with a brief stint of my time in Dilworth. I met my now husband, Mike, playing volleyball at VBGB. In 2018 we got married and signed to build our home in Biddleville-Smallwood (2022 W Trade) as we were leaving for our honeymoon. Fast forward to now, we have two sweet little girls, Mira (2) and Renna (1) and My Boy Larry (cat).
Since moving into the neighborhood, we have been showered with so much love and such meaningful friendships, beyond any expectations we would have ever dreamed of. I am so energized by our community. I am ready to play a bigger part here and love on our community by being on the board.
I live at 121 S Gardner Avenue (next door to Smallwood Presbyterian Church). I moved to Charlotte from Decatur, GA in 2004, and moved to the neighborhood in April 2019.
I joined the Board because I was interested in learning more about ongoing initiatives and issues that will impact the neighborhood. My long-term hope for the community is that all voices (long-term and newer residents) are heard as the neighborhood continues to take positive strides.
